"I am of the firm belief that you need to take time to get to know a place, to research its history, and to interact with the local community if you really want to capture its uniqueness and sense of place."
Debbie Heaphy is an Environmental Scientist and Photographer who lives and works on the West Coast of Ireland. Debbie's research and training in evaluating the special character of landscapes and communities defines her photographic compositions. Debbie studies the environment with a passion, getting to know the local ecology, the wildlife, landscape history and archaeology and the every day customs and traditions of rural communities.
"We live in an era of rapid change with ever-increasing advances in technology fuelled by a commercially driven society. We are producing waste and emissions that affect our air and water quality and are promoting more and more development and infrastructure all resulting in ecological change and habitat loss. The adverse effects on the diversity and abundance of our wildlife and landscapes are increasingly obvious. Couple the local environmental threats with global environmental issues and the unspoilt landscapes and environments of rural areas will soon diminish.
As an Environmental Art Photographer Debbie's aim is to document and record the essence of the rural environment. Her intention is to raise awareness of the importance and beauty of our environment and to document rural customs and traditions to help to ensure that they continue.
Debbie specialises in Art photography and has taken time to develop her collections of Limited Edition Prints using the giclee process. The finest art papers and sustainable printing inks are used and each print is signed and presented with a certificate of uniqueness, packaged and ready for framing.
"Through my photographs I hope to share with you the uniqueness of our home in Ireland and also the landscapes and communities that I encounter on my travels. Through my photography I am working to preserve and document the essence and special character of fabulous and yet unspoiled landscapes. I hope you enjoy my collections."
